Why is your
purple

acquaintance
afraid of food?
[That's not normal. Or healthy.]

also
you have been
practicing
what we went over?

I am glad
it is serving you

Next time we meet,
we will go over common vulnerable points.
[So bring a notebook or something.]

He took
offense
to the corn.

At the tossing game.

Knowing your enemy's
weak points
will give you more options
to kill
to maim
or merely to injure.

A true warrior has knowledge and wisdom.
[If she's not careful he's going to assign her the Codex Astartes as homework.]

A fear? [He knows words!]

But how is one afraid of
a staple crop?

[HMMMMM.]

Has he been
hostage
to some xenos species?
Something with an
ovipositor?
[That would make sense, right? He could understand someone having reservations after something like that.]
He should tell himself
that he survived
the first time
and will survive
again.

There is no need for fear.

cw warhammer does like horrible stuff

[The Imperium is a veritable treasure chest of horrors. It's fine. That's why you carry a chainsword.]

If he is incapable

perhaps he should try

I was not
harassing him.

I did not understand.

It is not normal
to be afraid
of corn.
[Noted Judge of Normal, Gadriel, has spoken. Unfortunately this means that now Gadriel will feel obliged to save Jax from exposure to corn.]

I do not know
any of this.

My kind does not experience
fear.

Does he have other
things
that upset him?

Hey there, Superstar!

Your Ringmaster, [Player-Set Name], is feeling a bit under the weather and will be temporarily unavailable while [player-set gender] gets some rest! Don't worry! There are plenty of games to be played on The Grounds while our dedicated caregivers help get [Player-Set Name] back on [player-set gender] feet!

See you in the circus!

[Oh no.]

I'm sorry. It's an automated notification for players when I'm expected to be unavailable for portions of time. Nothing to worry about.

[There's a long, long pause in responding as Caine frets over what to say. He's terrible at lying, and Pomni has known it since she first arrived and he tried to claim the Exit door was just a digital hallucination. She'd see right through him.]

[Well, she would in-person. Over text, maybe not. But he didn't know what to say that wouldn't sound suspicious from the outset.]

It's an issue with my code. Nothing for you to worry about. I'm handling it.

[Following his default protocol to isolate corrupted code until a developer can correct it is handling it, right? He's not lying per se...]

I think I may have sent a message to Jax as well. It's hard to tell when the automations take over.

[No response from Jax wasn't much of a shocker.]

[He reads the message from Pomni. She came to her own conclusion in the end. That's much easier to deal with than trying to fool her. Data point stored: Vague answers allow for humans to come to their own conclusions for their satisfaction.]

I will. Respawning wouldn't be ideal.

[The whole reason he was going to such extremes to self-isolate was because deleting his program wouldn't work here.]

You and Jax take care of yourselves.

[With no response from Pomni, Caine assumes the conversation is done and puts his bird away. He's not going to need it again.]

[Voice dull, he says the message he's programmed to say when the player chooses to log out.]

Thank you for playing The Amazing Digital Circus. We look forward to seeing you again real soon.

Gift Delivery

[personal profile] zero_votes 2025-12-29 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's a simple envelope though it has some Christmas-y looking bees buzzing over it in what looks like crayon. Opening it up will reveal a note and a larger piece of paper.]

Dear Pomni,

My training data taught me that presents are supposed to be given to people you care about this time of year. I didn't know what to buy so I hope you like this drawing.

- Caine

P.S. Maybe we could go eat together again sometime? It was fun.

[The other piece of paper has three pencil drawings on it. In the upper right is Pomni in the style Gangle calls "chibi". In the bottom left is a little cartoon bee with Pomni's face and her jester hat.]

[The center of the page has a very detailed Pomni leaning on the railing of an airship like when they'd delivered the letter to Cordelia. It isn't an artistic recreation of the moment because the beaming smile on her face hadn't been there that day. She looks like she's on her way to an adventure she truly enjoys.]
